Root canal therapy may be needed if you have a tooth ache or if the pulp of a tooth is inflamed or infected. During the procedure, the pulp tissue is removed, and the inside of the tooth is disinfected. This area is filled and sealed with a material called gutta-percha. Finally, the tooth is restored with a filling or a crown. Dr. Micallef performs routine root canal therapy but also refers to specialists called endodontists when needed.
